Reid Meets his Cousins

Friday afternoon, the Butlers came down to meet baby Reid.  They had been dying to meet him all week and so once we got home, Leigh Anne decided they could not wait any longer.

I was so glad they came because Banks was not warming up to him very well but once he saw how EXCITED his cousins were to meet Reid, he came around.,  Leigh Anne wanted them all to line up on the bed and she would let each of them hold him and they got on that bed quicker than I could blink.

Jack and Daniel were just observing at first.

Sissy, our little Mommy, was the first to hold him, of course.

Notice that Banks jumped on the bed after he saw how excited they were.

Maybe just maybe, the Sir is coming around!

This one is a little blurry but Georgie talked Banks into sitting by her and giving Reid a kiss.  He was coming in for the kiss at this moment.

Normally, Daniel is the one that is obsessed with the baby, but he was not too interested in holding him.  Jack was so sweet to him and kept telling me how cute he is and how soft his head is.

Leigh Anne asked Daniel if he wanted to hold the baby and he replied, "No, I already have Banks"  So sweet!

Banks does not go to school on Mondays and Daniel gets out at 11:15, so Leigh Anne and Daniel came down to hang out and it was great to have the company as well as Banks and Daniel playing together.

This is pretty much how my sweetie spent the day.  He is just so content.

Daniel was so happy to see Reid again.  This day, he wanted to hold him.

 Banks....not so much.

But maybe if cousin Daniel is up here with me, it won't be so bad!!!

One week and a digital announcement

Here is a picture Leigh Anne took of Reid and she added the writing in photoshop.

I have already mailed my birth announcements but dang!  If I had known how precious this one was going to look, I would have just used it.  Oh well, this is my blog birth announcement.

Reid McCaig Johnston

We spent the night in Birmingham Sunday night and got up bright and early Monday morning to head to St. Vincent's to meet our sweet baby boy.

I was a big ball of nerves but it all went so quickly, before we knew it, we were in the OR and at 7:22 a.m., Reid McCaig Johnston was born.

6 pounds, 8 ounces
20 and 1/2 inches

6 pounds and 8 ounces.  I was shocked.  He was a pound smaller than his big brother.

Bryan holding Reid for the frist time.  We had a TON of pics from the birth that our nurse took but I will spare you all the images.  They are a bit disturbing to me even.  Did you all know that when a baby is born, it is COVERED in this white gross stuff?   I was glad when they got him all cleaned off and covered up.   He really was so cute though!

We got settled in our room about 8:00 and Bryan and I had about 20 minutes alone with him before my family arrived.    My parents were so proud and looked so happy when they first saw him.

Just about 30 minutes old!  What a sweet baby!!!  This was our first photo together with our new little boy.

Proud Daddy with his second little boy!

Nana and Papa (my parents) were beaming as well.  Reid makes 4 grandsons for them, and one princess Georgia Anne is our only little girl.

Our nurse Cheri.  I absolutely LOVE her.  We had her with Banks all 4 days in the hospital and when St. Vincent's called last Friday to confirm our arrival, I requested her and sure enough when we arrived on Monday morning, there she was waiting to take care of us.

I had this perfect big brother meets little brother moment that never happened.  Reid was taken over to the nursery for observation about 11:45 and Banks arrived a little after Noon.    Not a big deal to the Sir, who was just as glad to see Mary and John Getty.

Reid had to spend a couple of days in the NICU for observation and to get a round of anti-biotics because they were suspicious that he might have some sort infection.  Luckily, all of his tests came back normal and he was released.

Fast Forward 3 days and Reid was all clear to come back to our room.  We enjoyed a quiet night in our room with our baby and by Friday morning we were ready to go home!
Tara was there to visit and to see us out to the car.

We got Reid dressed to go home.

We are all home and loving life with our new baby.  He is SO laid back and has been no trouble at all. He sleeps most of the time and is just the best baby.  We are so blessed to have 2 healthy boys and I thank God every day that he has blessed me with such a beautiful family.

Reid's Nursery

After 4 weeks of frantic unpacking and organizing the house, I finally managed to get the baby's room together.  It is 90% done.  I still need to get a little stuff here and there, but it is probably as good as it is going to get until he gets here next week.

I went neutral this time.  His room is very calming and I just love it.

Leigh Anne did the letters and hooks over his bed.  I think she did an amazing job.

I found this chest at a flea market and Leigh Anne and I chalk painted it and distressed it.  We have been using a lot of Annie Sloan chalk paint and I must say, we are somewhat addicted!  We did the chest, tissue box, sconces, floor lamp, and some items on the shelves.

The undershirts were a gift from Sara Jane Ball.  They belonged to Bryan's grandfather, BigWalter.

I had this hutch in my kitchen in Birmingham and I just thought it would be good in his room for shelving, storage and such.

Leigh Anne took an unfinished child's chair and painted it used stain to create the chevron print.  The floor lamp is one she chalk painted.  It was a dull brown and now it looks great.

Bedding, made by Pat Cook, of course.

The bed was Daniel's and belonged to Will Baynes before that.  Thank you JuJu!!!

One wall is not functional for furniture, as it has 2 closets and the bathroom door.

Some items on the shelves.

I found a baby book at Once Upon a Time that is the exact fabric of his bedding and valences.

While I was taking the pictures, I had a little shadow.  He was acting super silly (maybe a tad jealous).

Being a stinker too!

He would NOT smile for me.  I think I spy the look of trouble after the baby arrives.  Oh no!

P.S.  He got a haircut and is look SO much like Bryan these days.  I could literally eat him up.

Hurry up and get here baby Reid!  Your room is ready and so is Mommy.
