Quick Getaway to Asheville, NC

Bryan and I just returned from a quick get away to the Grove Park Inn in Asheville, NC.
We had great weather, an absolutely delicious dinner, an over the top spa day, and we were able to get ready in peace.

The Grove Park Inn in famous for their enormous fireplace.  It is very grand and so relaxing to sit in the rocking chairs in front of it.  We were lucky:  The hotel was basically empty so there were no crowds.

We went to Curate, a Spanish tapas restaurant in downtown Asheville.
Wow.  It was incredible.

The next morning, we had a breakfast spread fit for a king at the Grove Park, then headed to the Biltmore House.    Again, going during the middle of the week was terrific, as there were very few people there.  It was nice not to be shoulder to shoulder with people.

We toured the house,  the stables, grounds, and the winery.

We then went into Asheville and ate a late lunch...Indian food that was almost as good as Sima's mom's cooking.

The rest of the day was spent at the Grove Park spa.

Here are a few pics of our hotel.

Shortly after the Grove Park Inn was opened, Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, and Harvey Firestone began an annual tradition of staying at the Inn on their way to the Smoky Mountains.  They would catch up and drive around the mountains in a car much like this one.  They became known at the Vagabonds.

Getting ready to check out and head home to see our boys.

We stopped by Furman University in Greenville, SC on our way home to check it out.  I was so glad we decided to visit as Furman is a beautiful campus.  It remineded me of The College of William and Mary.  Maybe Banks will want to go to college here!
